Getting started

By the time you have reached this page you will have an idea of intended use, form, function of the interior for your project and even dreams of how you will use your garden room.

Whatever your intended use, you will need first to ascertain if you require Planning Permission for your project?

Whether you are planning a home office, pool room, gym or simply, a beautiful summer house it is wise to check whether you will require Planning Permission and from there, depending on your intended use, what Building Regulations may apply to your project.

Do I need Planning Permission?

There are a set of fairly simple rules contained within Planning Legislation that govern what works within the curtalige of your property can and cannot be undertaken.

Garden Buildings, such as those from Castle Garden Rooms, fall within the auspices of what is referred to as "Permitted Development".

Building Regulations

If you are planning to use your Garden Room as permanent accommodation or as an Airbnb or holiday let then your building will be subject to both full Planning Permission and control under Building Regulations.

There are other criteria that govern Planning Permission and Building Regulations - for example if your garden room footprint exceeds 15 square metres but this is covered in our Planning Guide which you can download using the Planning Guide button above.
